Image size: 27.2''
(69.1 cm) x 8.8'' (22.4 cm) Starting from the Zion Lodge or the Grotto Picnic Area, it is about a one mile (1.6 km) hike to the Middle Emerald Pool. The Emerald Pools are fed by the year-round creek originating in Heaps Canyon, which was named after an 1870s Mormon Pioneer. From the Middle Emerald Pool, you may look back towards the main canyon and see several majestic peaks. At lower elevations on the hike, you pass through boxelder, cottonwood and Gambel oak trees. At higher elevations, the drier habitat favors cacti, scrub oak, yucca and pinyon-juniper. Fall colors usually peak in October along this trail. |
